These figures are frozen holding a ghostly stare with the viewer, but very much alive, and trying to make eye contact. The tattooed numbers are unavoidable, scaring their identity, making us see what has been done to their soul. The numbers have been created intentionally illegible so as to respect the individuals that may have actual numbers in their family history.
The train tracks lead the cattle cars into the camps, and the darkened buildings are covered in ash from the ominous chimneys and crematoria. The stripes on the prisoners uniforms pull them down into the darkness.
